Obituary

Theodore R. "Ted" Lach, 79, of New Bedford passed away on Saturday July 24, 2010 after a courageous battle with cancer.

Born in New Bedford, the son of late Theodore F. and Catherine (Gwozdz) Lach, he lived in New Bedford for all of his life.

Mr. Lach was formerly employed as an installer for NYNEX for 34 years until his retirement.

He was a graduate of New Bedford Vocational High School, where he was a star quarterback for the football team and played baseball and basketball. He was later inducted into the Voc-Tech Gridirion Hall of Fame. He also played semi-professional football for the Fairhaven Varsity Club and the Murphy Club. For many years, he coached Pee Wee football for the S.E.Y.A.A. with his best friend Charlie Little.

During the Korean War, he served in the U.S. Air Force in France and England. He was a member of the Andrews-Dahill Post 1531 Veterans of Foreign Wars, the Telephone Company Pioneers, and the Y.M.C.A.

He is survived by his longtime companion, Cecile R. Christensen, and his extended family, Joanne, Dick, Derek, Ryan, Amanda, Daniel, and Andrew Sykes.

He was the father of the late Jan S. Lach, and brother of the late Richard Lach.
