Mr. Larry Mondell Martin, age 71, of Pinnacle, husband of Patricia Gordon Martin, passed away on Sunday, July 25, 2010 at Forsyth Medical Center. He was born in Stokes County on October 12, 1938 to the late Lamer Curtis and Bertha Mae Inman Martin.
Mr. Martin worked as a Supervisor for Surry Industries for 35 years before retiring and attended Olive Grove Baptist Church. Mondell enjoyed working with family genology and had written several books on his family and several area families.Mr. Martin is survived by his wife, Patricia Gordon Martin of the home; one son and daughter-in-law, Mondell Martin Jr. (Teresa) of Pinnacle; one daughter and son-in-law, Marlene Yavonne Martin (Clark Johnson) of Pinnacle; one brother and sister-in-law, Billy (Emily) Martin of Pilot Mountain; four sisters and brother-in-law, Vicky (Gray) Joyce of Westfield, Sylvia Hill of Mt. Airy, Vernell Holt of Mt. Airy and Virginia Hayley of Westfield; six grandchildren, Beth (Derek) McClaugherty of Pinnacle, Abby (Tony) Holyfield of Dobson, Taylor Martin of Kannapolis, NC, Laura Martin of Greenville, NC, Amanda Uhl of Clovis, NM; five great-grandchildren, Megan and Molly McClaugherty, Eli Holyfield, David, Maddie ,Asher Uhl and one step great granddaughter, Brooklyn Draughn; one brother and sister-in-law, Michael (Martha) Gordon; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, Lamer Martin, Carl Martin and Ralph Martin and one sister, Inez Jessup. Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, July 28, 2010 at Olive Grove Baptist Church at 11:00 A.M. with the Rev. Mitch Robertson and the Rev. Odell Sisk officiating with interment to follow in the church cemetery. Family will receive friends on Tuesday, July 27, 2010 from 6-8 PM at Olive Grove Baptist Church.In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Olive Grove Baptist Church, 2131 Volunteer Road, Pinnacle, NC 27043.
