Walter M. Clark, 75

Dateline: Norton, MA

Walter M. Clark, 75, a retired Norton Police Sergeant passed away surrounded by his loving family in the comfort of his home on Sunday July 25, 2010. He was the beloved husband of retired Town of Norton Collector/Treasurer Jill A. (Cotterill) Clark.
Born in Attleboro, MA on February 6, 1935 he was a son of the late Merle L., Sr. and Olive (Ebert) Clark.
Walter spent his early childhood living in Attleboro. His family later moved to Norton where he had made his residence for the past 65 years. He was educated in Norton schools and was a graduate of Norton High School.
He faithfully served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War. He was a member of the Military Police and on August 7, 1958 was honorably discharged with the rank of Corporal.
Mr. Clark was a graduate of the Massachusetts Municipal Police Academy and began his career with the Norton Police Department 1n 1970. He was promoted to the rank of Sergeant in 1976 and after 22 years as a Norton Police Officer retired in 1992. Following his retirement he also worked for several years at the Produce Barn in Norton.
Walter was a 50 year member of the Jenks Masonic Lodge No.24 F. & A.M. in Pawtucket, R.I. and had attended the Trinitarian Congregational Church in Norton. His other memberships included the Massachusetts Police Association and the Massachusetts Fraternal Order of Police.
Mr. Clark, along with his family enjoyed many wonderful summers spent in Falmouth. He took great pride in the appearance of his yard and loved spending time with his adoring grandchildren. Being a retired police officer he was exceptionally proud when his nephew Brian was appointed as Norton Police Chief in 2008.
In addition to his beloved wife he is survived by his devoted son Arnold I. Larson, III and his wife Nancy of Bellingham. He was the dear brother of Beverly J. Ebert of Attleboro, Dale R. Clark and his wife Betty of Norton and the late retired Massachusetts State Police Lieutenant Merle L. Clark, Jr. Mr. Clark is also survived by his cherished grandchildren Trevor, Gianna, Alexa and Mia, his sister in law Anne Clark of Norton and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services, to which relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend, will be held on Thursday July 29th at 11:00 A.M. at the Norton Memorial Funeral Home 19 Clapp St. (Off Route 140, Taunton Ave.) Norton. Burial with police honors will follow in the Timothy Plain Cemetery, Norton.
Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday July 28th from 5-8 P.M. at the Norton Memorial Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, Walter’s family has requested that donations in his memory be made to the Community Visiting Nurse Agency of Hospice 10 Emory St. Attleboro, MA 02703.
