Mrs. Rachel Davis Smith, 75, of Fitzgerald, died Thursday, July 22, 2010 at her residence.
Funeral services will be held at 2 P.M. Saturday, July 24, 2010 at the Paulk Funeral Home Chapel in Fitzgerald with Rev. Farise Taylor officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. The family will receive friends 7-9 Friday evening at the funeral home.
Mrs. Smith was born July 27, 1934 in Gastonia, North Carolina to the late Bates Davis and the late Mary Hardin Davis Bell. She was a 1952 graduate of Ashley High School in Gastonia, NC. Mrs. Smith was a homemaker and a former employee of Cherry, Bekaert & Holland CPA Firm and the Department of Social Services, both in Gastonia. She moved to Fitzgerald in 1973. She attended the Nazarene Church.
She is survived by her two sons and daughters-in-law: Jeffrey & Nickie Smith of Fitzgerald and Nathan & Sharon Smith of Statesboro; grandchildren: Ava Smith and Josh & Henrietta Hand; great grandchildren: Zia, Olivia and Victoria Hand; sister: Barbara Brackett of Gastonia, NC; brothers: Larry Bell and Steve Davis, both of Gastonia, NC as well as several nieces and nephews. Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Shelton Smith and a sister, Cindy Mathis.
