Obituary


Solomon “Solie” G. Myers, 76, of Pekin, passed away July 21, 2010 at OSF St. Francis Medical Center.

Solie was born to Solomon and Helen Myers on September 22, 1933, in Pekin. He married Mary Fairchild on October 14, 1967.

Those surviving him are his wife, Mary, his children, Douglas (Paula) Wurmnest of Evansville, IN, Craig (Bonnie) Wurmnest of South Windsor, CT, Tamra (Ryan) Blanco of Ventura, CA, and Todd (Jasmine) Myers of North Bend, WA, and nine grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Solie was graduated from Bradley University with a Bachelors degree in Political Science and a Masters degree in Education Administration. He spent most of his working career in education. He was a junior high teacher and basketball coach at Robein in East Peoria. He became the principal at Groveland grade school. He was appointed Assistant Regional Superintendent of Schools for Tazewell County. After one year, he became Regional Superintendent of Schools for Tazewell County and was reelected to that position four times. He finished his educational career serving as director of Mid-Illini Education Co-operative.

Solie was an avid reader and enjoyed fishing and watching sports. He loved visiting his children and grandchildren.

A visitation will be held at Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes in Pekin from 3pm-5pm on Saturday, July 25. Affordable Funeral and Cremation Services of Central Illinois is conducting the cremation. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Deer Creek District Library
