DANIEL FRANCIS McMULLEN, JR.

Daniel McMullen, also known as Danny, Bump, Buddy, Moon, and Kahuna, died at home after a short illness at the age of 82. Daniel was born in Taunton, MA on January 1, 1928, the third son of the late Daniel and Lillian (Mahoney) McMullen. While growing up in the Weir, he was an excellent baseball and basketball player. After graduating from Coyle High School in 1947, he worked as a clerk typist for Armor-Bronze Silver Company in Taunton, MA. Daniel then joined the Army’s 45th Infantry Division from 1950 to 1952. He served as a combat medic for the Thunderbirds and earned the Silver Star award for heroism. Daniel joined the Taunton Police Department in 1955 and worked as a police officer until retiring in 1973 due to illness. Upon retirement, he held a position with Bay Bank in Taunton working as a teller. His passions were his family and friends, yearly trips to Maui, and golf, which he actively played up until his death. Daniel is predeceased by his wife of 36 years, Phyllis (Morris) McMullen, son Daniel McMullen, and grand-daughter Marisa Mori. He is survived by his daughters Kathy (John) Fernandes, Jane (Russell) Mori, and grandchildren Lauren (Sullivan) MacDonald, Sean Sullivan, Mathew McMullen, and Matthew Mori. Family and friends are cordially invited to celebrate Daniel’s life at a graveside service at St. Joseph Cemetery Taunton, Ma. on 7/29/10 at 11 am. Arrangements are under the direction of the O’Keefe-Wade Funeral Home in Taunton, MA. In lieu of flowers, gifts in his memory may be sent to Hospice and Palliative Care, 502 Bedford St., Fall River, MA 02720.
