Herbert M. Stacey

...retired mechanic for Boston and Maine R.R.; 82

PELHAM, NH - Herbert M. Stacey, 82, died Sunday morning, Nov. 16, at the CommunityHospice House in Merrimack, NH, after a lengthy illness.

He was born in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada, on Feb. 26, 1921, a son of the late Dan andLouisa (Wilson) Stacey. His family moved to Cape Cod in 1926, and later settled into Lowell. He had lived in Lowell the greater part of his life. For the past 15 years, he lived in New PortRichey, Fla., and returned to New England last April because of failing health.

During WWII, he served in the U.S. Army’s 125th Armored Engineer Battalion as a mine sweepoperator. He was awarded many medals including the Purple Heart, and Distinguished UnitBadge. He served in North Africa, France, Italy, and Germany, including the fights at Normandyand Ardennes.

In his earlier years, he worked as an aircraft mechanic. Later he joined the Boston and MaineRailroad, as a train mechanic.

Since his retirement to Florida, he became an avid bowler, and was proud to have been awarded a30 year pin by AA, where he has worked tirelessly as a sponsor, councilor and friend .

He is survived by a son, Peter W. Stacey of Bradford; a daughter, Robin M. Caron of Westford;two sisters and a brother-in-law, Mabel Dewing of Tewksbury, Frances M. and her husbandRichard Chadwick of Pelham, NH; two grandsons, Jeffrey Caron of Dracut, Jason Caron ofLowell; one great granddaughter, Natalia, and many nieces and nephews.

He was also the former husband of Rose (Finch) Stacey of Lowell, and Ruth Wright of Chiefland,Fla., and brother of the late Elizabeth Rix, and William H. Stacey.

Following cremation, a Memorial Service was held, Saturday, Nov. 22.
