Eugene O. “Gene” Lambert, 88, of Woonsocket, died Wednesday at Landmark Medical Center. He was the loving husband of Marie-Marthe (Dery) Lambert. They were married on February 8, 1947.
Born in Woonsocket, he was a son of the late Conrad and Exilia (Marquis) Lambert. He was a lifelong resident of the city.
Mr. Lambert served in the Army in the Pacific Theater during WWII. He was awarded the American Theater Campaign Ribbon, Victory Medal, Good Conduct Medal, and the Asiatic-Pacific Theater Campaign Ribbon.
Mr. Lambert was employed by several firms in the area including Bonin Spinning, the French Worsted mills, and Ocean State Finishing before retiring.
Gene was a dedicated family man and will be remembered for his strong work ethic and his unceasing generosity to others.
In addition to his wife of 63 years, he is survived by three sons, Rene Lambert, Ernest Lambert, and his wife Linda, and Roland Lambert, and his wife Elaine, all of Woonsocket, four daughters, Suzanne Bourget, and her husband Florian, of Woonsocket, Jacqueline Tetreault of Blackstone, Madeleine Laquerre, and her husband Paul, of Woonsocket, and Jeannine Boutiette, and her husband Michael, of Cumberland. He was the brother of Irene Phaneuf of Woonsocket, and Yvette Liesner of Idaho, and the late Andrew and Normand Lambert, and Lillian Dumas. He is also survived by 15 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. He was the father-in-law of the late Eugene Tetreault.
His funeral will be Monday at 9:00 am from the Menard Funeral Home, 127 Carrington Ave., Woonsocket, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am in All Saints Church, Rathbun St., Woonsocket. Burial with Military Honors will follow in Resurrection Cemetery, Cumberland. Visiting hours are Sunday from 5-8 pm.
