WORCESTER: Charles J. Grigaitis, Sr., 59, of Worcester, died Saturday, Nov. 15, in his home, following an illness.
He leaves two sons, Charles J. Grigaitis, Jr. and David R. Grigaitis; a daughter, Christin Grigaitis-Adams, all of Worcester; two grandsons Ryan Thompson and Dylan Adams, both of Worcester; his former wife Joyce M. (Napoli) Grigaitis of Shrewsbury. He was born in Worcester, son of Joseph and Julia (Thompson) Grigaitis and was a lifelong resident of the city. He graduated from St. John's Preparatory School and attended St. Bonaventure University.
He owned and operated Uncle Charlies Tavern for more than 30 years.
An active member of St. Peter's Parish and its parish council, he was a member of its men's club and sang in the choir. He also ran the Annual Bazaar and raffles at St. Peter's. He previously was a member of St. Casimir Parish and had sung in its parish choir and had many years ago been active in many parish activities including Council 26, Knights of Lithuania.
Long active in Grafton Hill projects and issues, he was a founding member and served in all offices of The Grafton Hill Business Association. This past spring the annual fundraiser for its Scholarship Fund was named The Charles J. Grigaitis Scholarship Run in honor and recognition of his service.
He also enjoyed gardening and fishing.
The funeral will be held Wednesday, Nov. 19, from DIRSA-MORIN FUNERAL HOME, 298 Grafton St., with a Mass at 10 a.m. in St. Peter's Church, 931 Main St. Burial will follow in St. John's Cemetery.Calling hours are from 5 to 9pm Tuesday, Nov. 18, in the funeral home.
