HAVERHILL: Elizabeth R. Hanlon, 97, died Monday, September 07, 2009 in the Oceanside Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Hampton, NH.
Born in Haverhill on November 21, 1911, she was the daughter of the late Joseph J. and Elizabeth (Melanson) Hanlon. She had resided in Haverhill most of her life. She was a resident of the Oceanside Nursing & Rehabilitation Center for the past three years. She was a graduate of Haverhill High School class of 1931 and Haverhill Municipal Hospital School of Nursing class of 1934.
She was employed as a registered nurse in private duty and at the former Hale Hospital for many years until her retirement in 1978. Elizabeth was a member of Sacred Hearts Parish, Municipal Nurses Association, Haverhill Nurses Association, Haverhill Women's City Club and the In-Hale Ex-Hale Nurses Group.
She is survived by her son, Paul M. Hanlon and his wife, Claire of Orlando, FL., her granddaughter, Michelle Mailhot, of Orlando and a great-granddaughter, Gates Claire Valines and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her two sisters and three brothers.
Her funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday in the Sacred Hearts Church, Bradford at 10:30 a.m. Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday in the Linnehan-Grondin Funeral Home, 52 Salem Street, Bradford from 4-7 p.m. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her memory to the Alzheimer's Association, 311 Arsenal St., Watertown, MA 02472. Interment will be held in the St. Patrick's Cemetery, Haverhill.
