Obituary

PHOENIX, AZ: Frank V. Sapareto, 90, formerly of Haverhill, died Wednesday, July 8, 2009 in Phoenix, Arizona. He was the husband of Alice (Lambert) Sapareto.

Born in Haverhill on April 16, 1919, he was the son of the late Louis and Alice (Faretta) Sapareto. He was a graduate of the Haverhill High School class of 1937 and Tufts University class of 1941, having received a degree in engineering.

Following graduation, he was employed for a brief time by Arthur D. Little Co. of Cambridge, MA and Calco Chemical Co. of New Jersey. Mr. Sapareto was also a co-owner, along with his father, of the Concord Heel Company of Haverhill from 1941 to 1966 until he took a position with Western Electric, where he remained until 1974. He had also worked at Compo Machine Company of Haverhill between his time at Concord Heel and Western Electric. At that time, he began a second career teaching math and science in the Haverhill area until 1986.

He and Alice retired to Nokomis, Florida, however continued to spend summers in Meredith, New Hampshire. He was a member of the Nor'Eastaires Barber Shop Quartet, which he loved to do. He was also a member of the 4th Degree Knights of Columbus, a past president of the Exchange Club, and enjoyed golf, tennis and watching baseball. Always supportive of his family, Frank had dedicated much time campaigning for his son, Frank, who ran for the Senate and House of Representatives.

Most of all, he loved spending time with his three grandsons. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

In addition to his wife of 62 years, he is survived by two sons, Dr. Stephen A. Sapareto, fiancé of Margaret Stresen-Reuter of Cave Creek, AZ and Senator Frank V. Sapareto, Jr. of Derry, NH, a daughter, Susan Alice Sapareto of Skaneateles, NY, three grandsons, Frank V. Sapareto, III, J.J. Sapareto and Mark Sapareto, a sister, Rita Funi and her husband, Don of FL, two sisters, Lois Anna Fullerton and her husband, Allan of Haverhill and Mary Carmella McCoon of SC and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two brothers, Dr. Rocco Sapareto and Louis Sapareto and a sister, Rose Sapareto.

His funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday in the All Saints Church, Bellevue Ave., Haverhill at 1 p.m. Visiting hours will be held in the Linnehan-Grondin Funeral Home, 129 Kenoza Avenue, Haverhill on Tuesday from 4 - 7 p.m. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his memory to the Banner Alzheimer's Institute, 901 E. Willetta St., Phoenix, AZ 85006. Interment will be held in St. Patrick's Cemetery, Haverhill.
