Gladys M. Rivers, 83, died Thursday, June 11, 2009 in the Merrimack Valley Hospital following a brief illness.
Born in Amesbury on October 27, 1925, she was the daughter of the late Harland E. and Ethel G. (Smith) Rivers. A lifelong resident of Haverhill, she was a graduate of Haverhill High School class of 1943 and the Lowell General Hospital School of Nursing.
Gladys was employed as a registered nurse at the former Hale Hospital in Haverhill for thirty-eight years before retiring in 1985. She was also a member of the West Congregational Church. Gladys loved flowers, enjoyed traveling when she was able, musical plays and especially loved to go out to lunch with her many friends.
She is survived by two sisters and a brother-in-law, Alyce F. and Joseph F. Innis, Jr. of Haverhill and Helen I. Quinney of Whitefield, NH, two brothers and a sister-in-law, William E. and Carol Rivers of Seabrook, NH and Robert A. Rivers of Haverhill, many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. She was also predeceased by a brother-in-law, Wendell Quinney.
Her funeral services will be held on Monday in the West Congregational Church, 767 Broadway, Haverhill at 10 a.m. Visiting hours will be held on Sunday in the Linnehan-Grondin Funeral Home, 129 Kenoza Avenue, Haverhill from 1 - 4 p.m. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her memory to the Susan G. Komen for the Cure, Attn: Gift Management Services, 5005 LBJ Freeway, Suite 250, Dallas, TX 75244. Interment will be held in the Linwood Cemetery, Haverhill.
