Gloria E. (Durland) Card, age 76, died early Monday morning, February 16, 2009 in the Wingate at Haverhill. She was the wife of the late William C. Card, who died in May 2000.
Born in Lynn on July 5, 1932, she was the daughter of the late Harold and Anita (Lepine) Durland. Gloria was a graduate of Lynn Classical High School and had resided in Lynn for several years before moving to Groveland over forty years ago.
She was employed at the former Western Electric in Andover for many years before retiring in 1987. In retirement she worked part-time at Shaw's Supermarket in Newburyport and for Dr. Darke in Groveland. She enjoyed bowling, playing bingo, and loved to dine out.
She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Carol A. and Thomas M. Goodwin of W. Newbury, two sons and a daughter-in-law, Scott W. and Wendy Card of Haverhill and John J. Card of Groveland, five grandchildren, Taylor, Amber, and Tenley Goodwin, all of W. Newbury, and Nicholas and Jacob Card, both of Haverhill, a sister, Ruth Feener of Lynn, and several nieces and nephews.
Her funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, February 20, in the St. John the Baptist Church, Lincoln Avenue, Haverhill, at 10:00 a.m. Visiting hours will be held on Thursday, February 19, in the Linnehan-Grondin Funeral Home, 52 Salem Street, Bradford, from 4:00-7:00 p.m. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her memory to the Alzheimer's Association, 311 Arsenal St., Watertown, MA 02472.
