Obituary

Hazel D. (Poitras) Condon, age 90, died early Saturday morning, January 31, 2009 in the Bellamy Fields Assisted Living Center in Dover, NH. She was the wife of the late William J. Condon, who died in 1981.

Born in Haverhill on February 23, 1918, she was the daughter of the late Arthur J. and Lillian A. (Inglis) Poitras. She had resided in Haverhill for many years before moving to Atkinson, NH in 1975 and then to Dover, NH in 2005. She was a graduate of Haverhill High School, Class of 1935 and the McIntosh Business College.

Hazel was employed for many years at Western Electric, AT&T, and had retired as a secretary at Lucent Technologies in 1980. She had also once worked at the Knipe Shoe Factory in Ward Hill and the former Atherton Furniture Company in Haverhill. In her retirement years Hazel enjoyed traveling to Europe, Canada, and many places in the United States. She also spent time employing her expert skills at sewing and needlework. Mrs. Condon was a longtime communicant of Holy Angels Parish in Plaistow, NH.

She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Judith A. and John Durant of West Newbury, two sons and daughters-in-law, William A. and Linda Condon of Barrington, NH and Robert A. and Louise Condon of E. Hampstead, NH, eight grandchildren, Tamara Perkins of Greenland, NH, Lisa Merrill of Durham, NH, Amy Friend of W. Newbury, Erin Taylor of Somerset, Jeffrey Condon of Methuen, Christopher Condon of Windham, NH, Robert Condon of Newton, NH, and Michael Donahue of Tucson, AZ, fifteen great-grandchildren, four sisters-in-law, Mildred and her husband Emile Marquis of Methuen, Anne Condon of Atkinson, NH, Cecilia McGuire of Windham, NH, and Pauline Poitras of Plaistow, NH, a brother-in-law, Edward Condon and his wife Irene of Methuen, and many nieces and nephews. She was also predeceased by a brother, Arthur J. Poitras, Jr.

Her funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, February 4, in the Holy Angels Church, 8 Atkinson Depot Rd., Plaistow, NH at 11:00 a.m. Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday, February 3, in the Linnehan Funeral Home, 129 Kenoza Avenue, Haverhill from 4:00-8:00 p.m. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her memory to the Bellamy Fields Assisted Living Center, c/o "Employees Fund", 150 Garrison Rd., Dover, NH 03820. Interment will be held in the Elmwood Cemetery, Methuen.
