Alfred F. Gruhn, Sr., 78

Alfred F. Gruhn, Sr., 78, of Mansfield formerly of Medfield, passed away peacefully in the presence of his loving family on Monday July 19, 2010 at home. He was the former husband of Marguerite (McKay) Lawler of Foxboro.
Born in Boston, MA on May 13, 1932 he was a son of the late Henry and Irene (Canney) Gruhn. He grew up in the Mission Hill section of Boston and was educated in Boston public schools.
Al proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War and was honorably discharged from the service with the rank of Corporal.
A retired mail carrier, Mr. Gruhn was employed by the U.S. Postal Service for over 10 years before retiring.
Al was a former member of the Mission Hill VFW Post. He enjoyed attending family events and loved the times spent with friends at the local tracks. He had made his home in Mansfield for the past 10 years and was a former resident of Medfield.
In addition to his former wife, he is survived by his devoted children Ann M. Terpstra and her husband Steve of Attleboro, Alfred F. Gruhn, Jr. of Mansfield, Irene C. Eastman of Foxboro, Robert E. Gruhn of Mansfield and Debra A. Wilson of Foxboro. He was the brother of Irene Andrade of Wisconsin, Audrey Tighe of Medfield and is also survived by 12 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services, to which relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend, will be held on Thursday July 22nd at 11:15 A.M. at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne.
Visiting hours have been omitted and due to the limitation of flowers allowed at the National Cemetery, Mr. Gruhn’s family has requested that donations in his memory be made to the New England Shelter for Homeless Veterans 17 Court St. Boston, MA 02108.
