Berthold "Bert" C. Meyer, age 88 of Groveland, died Thursday, October 16, 2008 at The Oxford Nursing Care Center, Haverhill, surrounded by his loving family following a long and courageous period of declining health.
Mr. Meyer was born in Brooklyn, NY on February 14, 1920. He was the son of the late Berthold S. and Victoria Meyer. He was educated in Brooklyn schools, and was a graduate of Brooklyn Technical High School, Class of 1937. He received his Bachelor's Degree from The Cooper Union for the Advancement of Science and Art, New York City, graduating in 1943, and completed the Master's Degree program from the Stevens Institute of Technology, New Jersey.
Mr. Meyer had been a resident of New York and New Jersey, prior to moving to Groveland in 1957.
He had worked for only one employer during his career, which began in 1937. He was employed by the former Bell Telephone Co., Lucent Technologies, Inc., first in Brooklyn, NY, New Jersey, and retiring from the North Andover Facility as a Senior Electrical Engineer in 1985.
Mr. Meyer enjoyed working prior to and after retirement as the Manager and Projectionist of the former Salem Tri-Cinema, Salem, NH, for almost 30 years, retiring in 2000. He was always very dedicated to his family and cherished the time they spent together.
He was a longtime member of the Groveland Congregational Church, Groveland; and the Telephone Pioneers of America.
He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Barbara A. (Meder) Meyer of Groveland; his sons, Walter C. Meyer and his wife Edith L. of Bedford, NH and Douglas R. Meyer of Groveland; and daughter, Carol Anne Angley and her husband John R. of Kensington, NH; grandchildren, Alex B. and Collin W. Meyer of Bedford, NH, and Bryan E.F. and Barbara M. Angley of Kensington, NH; sister in-law, Thelma F. Meyer of Massapequa Park, NY; nephew, Richard Meyer of Massapequa Park, NY; and niece, Janette Meyer-Howe and her husband Daniel of Jefferson Point, LI, NY. He was the brother and best friend of the late Edward F. Meyer, who died in 1967.
Funeral Services will held Monday, October 20, in the Groveland Congregational Church, 4 King Street, Groveland, at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow in Linwood Cemetery, Mill Street, Haverhill.
Calling hours will be Sunday, October 19, in the C. Frank Linnehan and Son Haverhill Funeral Home, 129 Kenoza Avenue, Haverhill, from 4:00-8:00 p.m. Relatives and friends kindly invited.
