Obituary

Howard "Howie" C. Wilbur, age 76 of Newton, NH, died Wednesday, August 27, 2008 at the Merrimack Valley Hospital, Haverhill.

Mr. Wilbur was born in Haverhill, on December 19, 1931, the son of the late Howard C. Wilbur, Sr. and Bernice E. (Morrison) Wilbur. He was educated in Haverhill schools, and was a graduate of Haverhill Trade School, class of 1949.

He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1949 and served for four years before being honorably discharged in 1953.

After returning to Haverhill he began his 35-year career at the former Western Electric, Co., North Andover, until his retirement in 1988. He moved to Newton, NH in the late 1980s.

He was Past-Exalted Ruler and Honorary Life Member of the Haverhill Lodge of Elks No. 165. He was also an avid golf player and enjoyed playing throughout New England.

He is survived by his siblings, Robert M. Wilbur and his wife Gail J. of Kingston, NH, Judith A. Nilsson of Haverhill, and Dianne C. Swartz of Columbus, OH, and many nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews, and friends, Gregory Whittier of Merrimac, and Carlene of Hawaii.

Funeral services with military honors will be held graveside, Saturday, September 6, 2008 in Riverview Cemetery, Main Street, Groveland, at 10:00 a.m. Please allow extra time to get through Groveland Days activities around School and Main Streets.

Calling hours will be Friday in the C. Frank Linnehan and Son Haverhill Funeral Home, 129 Kenoza Avenue, Haverhill, from 5:00-8:00 p.m. Relatives and friends kindly invited to attend.
