Shirley G. Coen, age 82, former longtime Rockport resident, died Tuesday, August 5, 2008 at the Hannah Duston Healthcare Center, Haverhill.
Miss Coen was born in Gloucester on September 8, 1925, the daughter of the late Joseph M. and Grace (Hamor) Coen. She moved to Dallas, TX at an early age where she was raised and attended the local schools. She graduated from Southern Methodist University, Dallas.
Miss Coen taught in Dallas for several years before moving back to Massachusetts, residing in Rockport. She was employed for over 25 years by the Gloucester Public School System, retiring as a Principal of the Milton L. Fuller Elementary School in the late 1980s.
She enjoyed teaching and spending time with her nieces and nephews.
She is survived by her niece, Maureen G. Ferullo and her husband John J. of Plaistow, NH; nephews, J. Myles Coen and his wife Jennifer of Peabody and Mark J. Coen and his wife Sarah of Beverly; grandnieces and grandnephews, Amy Ferullo, Ross Ferullo, and Mark Ferullo of Plaistow, NH, and J. Myles Coen, Jr., Bernard Coen, and Bridget Coen of Peabody; and several other nieces and nephews. She was the sister of her late twin brother, George M. Coen, also John J. Coen and his wife Bonnie; and niece, Catherine M. Coen.
Funeral services will be held Friday afternoon, August 8, graveside in the Coen Family Lot in Beech Grove Cemetery, Pleasant Street, Rockport at 1:00 p.m. Relatives and friends kindly invited.
