Chaffee, Glory M. (Thomas), age 63 of Haverhill, died Friday, March 21, 2008 at Merrimack Valley Hospital, Haverhill.
Mrs. Chaffee was born in Haverhill on October 19, 1944, the daughter of the late Dorothy M. (Glancy) and Larry V. Thomas, Sr. She attended Haverhill schools and was a 1962 graduate of Haverhill High School. She also attended Northern Essex Community College, Haverhill. She had been a resident of Haverhill for most of her life.
She joined the Job Corps and worked in West Virginia for 3 years. After returning home she was employed as a dietary aide at the former Hale Hospital, Haverhill; also working for several nursing homes as a nurses aide; and most recently working at Building 19 in Haverhill's Riverside section. The most important job that Glory had though was raising her children. She enjoyed philosophy, nature, Kenoza Lake, swimming at Plugs Pond, camping, and playing the guitar. She was very passionate about singing and was known locally for her voice and her ability with musical instruments.
She is survived by her sons, Eric M. Chaffee of Newburyport, George V. Chaffee and his wife Leona J. of Haverhill, and Jerry S. Chaffee of Decherd, TN; grandchildren, Dylan M.V. and Aviana M. Chaffee of Haverhill; siblings, Larry V. Thomas of Arizona, Joyce S. Crockett of Haverhill, Doris L. McNeil of Plaistow, and Faith A. Jameson of Chelmsford; step-mother, Georgette Thomas; half siblings, Eddie Thomas, Valerie Thomas, Donald Sirrell, Edward Sirrell, and Pamela Sirrell; step-brother Ronald Sirrell; aunt Marlene Boucher and her husband George; and several nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews.
Her Funeral Service will be celebrated Wednesday, March 26, in the C. Frank Linnehan and Son Haverhill Funeral Home, 129 Kenoza Avenue, Haverhill at 11:30 a.m. Interment will follow in City Central Cemetery, Hilldale Avenue, Haverhill. Visiting Hours Wednesday morning, 9:30-11:30 a.m. Relatives and friends invited.
