Morton, Earl "Billy" W., age 83, of Salisbury, formerly of Haverhill, died Wednesday, April 30, 2008 at Anna Jaques Hospital, Newburyport.
Mr. Morton was born on January 8, 1925 in Haverhill, the son of the late Earl and Mabel L. (Comeau) Morton. He was educated in Haverhill schools, and was a graduate of the former Haverhill Trade School.
He is a Veteran of World War II, having enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1941. He served with his brother Dick during the Attack on Pearl Harbor. While in the service, he attended the Wentworth Naval Institute, Boston, and the Naval Water Tender School in PA. He is the recipient of the World War II Victory Medal and was honorably discharged in 1946.
He had been employed with Textron Systems Inc., Melrose; the Seabrook Nuclear Power Plant, Seabrook, NH; and for many years was self-employed as a carpenter. He was a member of the Carpenters Union, Local No. 921, Portsmouth, NH; and a longtime member of the North End Boat Club, Newburyport. He enjoyed spending time with his late brother Dick, once having built and flown an airplane together; he also was a fixture at the North End Boat Club, Newburyport, where he enjoyed spending time with his extended family and serving in several different capacities there, and was willing to help anyone that needed it.
He is survived by his son, Michael W. and his wife Marcy A. of Haverhill; daughters Donna Sanchez, Brenda Morton, Linda Morton, and Paula Morton, all of Lawrence; sister Janet Dumas and her husband Paul Dumas of Haverhill; brother Robert Morton of FL; 18 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great grandchild; several nieces and nephews; and was the brother of the late Richard W. Morton, who died March 29, 2007.
Memorial Service will be held Monday, May 5, in the C. Frank Linnehan and Son Haverhill Funeral Home, 129 Kenoza Avenue, Haverhill with Catholic Prayer Vigil at 12:00 p.m. Visitation will precede beginning at 10:00 a.m. Relatives and friends kindly invited.
