Calvi, Mark F. Jr., age 72, longtime resident of Groveland, died Tuesday, June 17, 2008 at the Merrimack Valley Hospital, Haverhill.
Mr. Calvi was born in Boston on January 29, 1936, the son of the late Mark F. Calvi, Sr. and Katherine (Gardella) Calvi, both of Italy. Raised in the Bradford section of Haverhill, he attended Haverhill schools and was graduated from Haverhill Trade School where he played both hockey and baseball.
He joined the United States Air Force and was honorable discharged in 1959. He had resided in Groveland since 1962. Mr. Calvi was employed with Lucent Technologies, Inc. of No. Andover for 38 years until his retirement in 1999. Mr. Calvi was a member of St. Patrick Church, So. Groveland; he also coached minor and little league baseball in Groveland from 1976-88. He was very passionate about vegetable gardening, he also enjoyed traveling throughout Europe and the United States including, Las Vegas, California, and especially Hawaii. He also looked forward to summering on the Cape with his family. Most importantly Mr. Calvi loved spending time with his family and grandchildren.
He was married for over forty years to the late Rita A. (Greene) Calvi, who died February 5, 2006. He is survived by his children, Debra A. Elovitz and her husband William D. of Boston, Mark F. Calvi III of Bradford, James C. Calvi and his wife Paula A. of Bradford, and Paul G. Calvi of Groveland; three grandchildren, Allen M. Christie USMC and his wife Shawna of Jacksonville, NC, Tala E. Calvi of Bradford, and James M. Calvi of Bradford; one great-granddaughter, Alanna Christie of Jacksonville, NC; sister, Constance Costanzo of Haverhill; and several cousins, nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday morning, June 24, 2008 beginning in the C. Frank Linnehan and Son Bradford Funeral Home, 52 Salem Street, Bradford at 9:30 a.m. Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in Sacred Hearts Church, 165 So. Main Street, Bradford at 10:30 a.m. Interment with Military Honors will follow in St. Patrick Cemetery, North Broadway, Haverhill.
