Blair, Ernest P., age 72 of Haverhill, died Monday, July 14, 2008 surrounded by his family at his residence in Haverhill.
Mr. Blair was born in Haverhill on January 4, 1936, the son of the late Arthur and Blanche (Belaire) Blair. He moved to Jericho, VT at an early age, where he attended and graduated from the local schools. Mr. Blair is a Veteran, having served in the United States Army during the Korean and Vietnam Wars. After being Honorably Discharged in 1958 he returned to VT. While visiting Haverhill he met his wife, they married a short time later, and moved to Haverhill. He had been employed as a machinist with the former L.H. Hamel Leather Co., Haverhill, for many years; then worked for the A.J. Fowle Machine Co., Haverhill, until his retirement in the 1990s. Mr. Blair was a life member and Past Post Commander of the Wilbur M. Comeau American Legion Post No. 4, Haverhill. He always enjoyed helping and taking care of others. His interests included bowling, country music, trips to the shore, and he always had a special place in his heart for Vermont. In addition, he cherished spending time with his family and friends, especially his nieces and nephews.
He was the husband of Mary A. (Rogers) Blair of Haverhill, to whom he celebrated their 49 years of marriage this past Fourth of July. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his four sisters, Mary Hines of Spring Hill, FL, Theresa DeVoe of Winter Haven, FL, Gladys Commo of Montpelier, VT, and Ruth Commo of Essex Junction, VT; his many loving nieces and nephews; and grandnieces and grandnephews. We was the brother of the late Arthur Blair, Jr. and Arnold Blair.
Calling hours will be held Friday morning, July 18, in the C. Frank Linnehan and Son Haverhill Funeral Home, 129 Kenoza Avenue, Haverhill from 9:30-10:30 a.m. Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will follow in St. James Church, 185 Winter Street, Haverhill, at 11:00 a.m. Interment in St. Patrick Cemetery, North Broadway, Haverhill.
