Obituary

Catherine Jeanette Bowen Sexton, 77, of Tifton died Monday, July 19, 2010, at Tift Regional Medical Center. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 22, 2010, in the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals. Dr. Danny Ray and Dr. Wayne Roe will officiate with burial to follow in Oak Ridge Cemetery. Roy McWilliams, Mayo Tucker, Brooks Brodie, Emmett Bowers, Johnny Abbott, Rusty Smith, Chuck Beale, Tommy Seward, Ricky Buckley, Randy Carter, Frank Cook and Mike Collier will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be the present coaching staff at Tift County High School; members of the Gardener's Sunday school class at Tifton’s First Baptist Church; nephews; Bobby “Roho” Bennett and Walter Burgess. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, July 21, 2010, from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals.

Mrs. Sexton was born on November 24, 1932 in Tift County and was the daughter of Irwin Washington Bowen, Jr. and Vera Lois Cook Bowen, both deceased. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Dewey Frank Sexton, Sr; and one brother, Dr. I. W. Bowen, III. She was a homemaker and a member of Tifton’s First Baptist Church, where she was a member of the Gardener's Sunday school class. She was formerly an LPN and served as a private sitter. She was a foster grandparent at Charles Spencer School and an avid football fan and will be missed at every game. She had lived her entire life in Tifton, except for 8 years of marriage spent in Thomasville.

Mrs. Sexton is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, William Irwin “Bill” and Terry Sexton of Norcross and Dewey Frank Jr. and Melenda Sexton of Tifton; one sister-in-law, Nell Bowen of Forsyth; one sister and brother-in-law, Carolyn Mae Bowen Newton and her husband, Ray, of Millen; three grandchildren, Heather Skaggs, Kayla Skaggs and Rebecca “Luci” Sexton; and one great grandchild, Aleah Skaggs.

Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to the Tift County High School Athletic Department for Girls, Attention: Mike Collier at One Blue Devil Way, Tifton, Georgia 31794, in honor of Mrs. Sexton’s granddaughter, Rebecca “Luci” Sexton.
