Obituary

Sister M. Judith (Ella) Mountain, 97 a Sister of Mercy for 76 years,
A native of Gloucester, Mass., she was the daughter of David and Ella (Mallette) Mountain died July 19, 2010, after a long illness.

Sister Judith received her B.S. and M.A. degrees in education from Mount Saint Mary College in Hooksett, N.H. For 36 years she was a teacher and administrator in New Hampshire Catholic schools. She taught at St. Peter School, Concord; St. Mary School, Claremont; Blessed Sacrament School, Manchester; St. Mary School, Dover; and Holy Trinity, Somersworth where she also served as principal. From 1975 until her retirement in 2005, Sister Judith was a pastoral minister at Holy Trinity Parish in Somersworth. She spent a total of 49 years in Somersworth, first at Holy Trinity School, then in parish ministry. She visited people in their homes, in hospitals and nursing homes, and was well known in Somersworth and the surrounding area.

In 2002, Sister Judith received the New Hampshire State Council of the Knights of Columbus Granite Award.

Family members include her brother, Gerald F. Mountain of Wenham, Massachusetts, and several nieces and nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.

Friends may call at the Warde Health Center, 21 Searles Road, Windham, New Hampshire, from 9:30 – 11 a.m. on Friday, July 23. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in Our Lady of Mercy Chapel in Windham at 11 a.m. on Friday. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery, Bedford, NH
