Alice T. (Dunkerley) Harper, 92 years, of Brockton died Friday July 16, 2010 at the Signature Healthcare-Brockton Hospital after a brief illness. She was the wife of the late George E. “Ned” Harper and daughter of the late James and Victoria (Drolet) Dunkerley. Mrs. Harper was born in Hyde Park and moved immediately to Panama, where her father was employed on the Pacific area of the canal. She returned to the United States after five years, briefly lived in Stoughton, moved to Framingham where she attended Elementary and Junior High School. She returned to Stoughton and was a graduate of Stoughton High School and attended Bridgewater State College. Mrs. Harper was a school teacher who taught at the Ellis Brett, Hancock and Huntington Schools. Upon her retirement she volunteered at the Adult Learning Center for several years, helping those preparing for their GED Diploma. She was a member of the Old Colony Y for 22 years with a special interest in swimming. She enjoyed reading and swimming but most of all spending time with her family.
She is survived by two sons, John H. Harper and his wife Patrice of Brockton and James G. Harper and his companion Holly Stark of East Falmouth, four grandchildren, Amy K. Flynn and her husband Kevin of Natick; James G. Harper, Jr. and his wife Robin of Martha’s Vineyard; Julie A. Harper of Wareham and Adam J. MacNeil Keefe of Winter Haven, FL; seven great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was the mother of the late Edward D. “Ted” Harper; Grandmother of the late Sarah Beth Harper, and sister of the late Dorothy Richmond; Lauretta Slater; Jeannette McArdle, and Margretta, Thelma and James Dunkerley, Jr.
A Funeral Service will be held in the Conley Funeral Home, 138 Belmont Street (Rte 123) Brockton Monday at 10am. Burial in Calvary Cemetery. Visiting hours Sunday 2-6pm.
