Obituary

BEVERLY: Mary Jane (Walsh) Hannon, 70, died unexpectedly following a brief illness on Wednesday, July 14, 2010 in the Salem Hospital. She was the wife of John J. Hannon.
Born in Boston on November 21, 1939, she was the daughter of the late Charles A. and Helene A. (Reagan) Walsh. She had spent her early years in Abington before moving to Beverly sixty-five years ago. She was a graduate of Beverly High School class of 1957 and the North Shore Baby Hospital School of Nursing.
Mary Jane was employed as an administrative clerk at the Beverly Regional Y.M.C.A. for over twenty years. She had also once worked as a pediatric nurse at Beverly Hospital and for Dr. Thomas O’Shea in Peabody. She was an avid reader, enjoyed boating and loved to watch Notre Dame Football.
In addition to her husband of forty-eight years, she is survived by two daughters, Gayle H. Hannon of Peabody and Tricia A. and her husband, Ron A. McGrath of Beverly, a son, Timothy J. and his wife, Jessica Hannon of Beverly, five grandchildren, Alexis H., Autumn V. and John C. Hannon and Shane O. and Wyatt J. McGrath all of Beverly, a sister-in-law, June Walsh of Beverly, an aunt, Helen Ware of Abington and many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was also predeceased by two brothers, John E. and William J. Walsh.
Her funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday in the St. Mary Star of the Sea Church, 253 Cabot St., Beverly at 11 a.m. Visiting hours will be held on Sunday in the Grondin Funeral Home, 376 Cabot Street, Beverly from 4 – 7 p.m. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her memory to the “Dollars for Scholars” c/o Beverly High School, 100 Sohier Rd., Beverly or to the “Y For All” c/o Greater Beverly Y.M.C.A., 245 Cabot St., Beverly, MA 01915. Interment will be held in the North Beverly Cemetery.
