Ruth (Sampson) Simmons, 92, of New Bedford, died January 24, 2002 at Sacred Heart Home after a long illness.
She was the wife of the late Everett R. Simmons,and daughter of the late Charles and Cora (Jenny) Sampson.
Mrs. Simmons was born in New Bedford and had lived in Dartmouth and New Bedford for most of her life.
She was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church.
Mrs. Simmons was formerly employed by H. P. Hood Milk Company and later by the Outlet Company as a bookkeeper for several years until her retirement.
She was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Women's Club. At the age of 87, Mrs. Simmons retired as a foster grandparent after 10 years of service.
Survivors include 4 sons, Senior Master Sergeant Dale E. Simmons, and his wife Braun, of Charleston, SC, and Robert E. Simmons, and his wife Karen, and Edward A. Simmons, and his wife Robin, all of New Bedford; and Russell A. Simmons, and his wife Terry, of Buchanan, Michigan; 15 grandchildren, and 5 great-grandchildren; and a niece, Janet Rooks of North Fort Myers, FL.
She was the sister of the late Anetta Backus and aunt of the late Marilyn Backus.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend her Funeral Service in the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford, Tuesday, January 29th at 10 AM.
Visiting hours Monday, January 28th from 4-8 PM.
Interment Rural Cemetery.
