Nelson Hernandez-Lourido, age 62, went home to our Lord in Heaven on July 9, 2010 after a courageous battle with cancer. A man of Constant sacrifice, Nelson began his adult life in the service of his country becoming an honorably discharged veteran of the United States Army; he served in the 15th Signal Battalion 1st Cavalry Division as a truck driver in the Vietnam War. He was awarded medals for National Defense, Vietnam Service, Expert Pistol, Vietnam Campaign and the Medal of Valor. He was proud to have served his country.
Nelson loved to stay fit and did so by jogging, boxing, wrestling and marital arts. Nelson and his brother Pete formed a wrestling duo team called Hermanos Diablos, fighting matches in the New York City area in their teenage years. He also loved collecting movies and was a huge fan of Bruce Lee and Jackie Chan films.
Cherished son of Leonor Lourido and the late Hermino Hernandez. Devoted and proud father of Katy Hernandez of Manhattan, NY. Adored nephew of Esther Mojica (Lourido) and the late Jorge Lourido. Beloved brother of Miguel Nunez, Doris Rivera, Peter Hernandez, the late Nylia Arce (Hernandez), Lillian Roman and Elena Hernandez. Loving uncle and only father figure to Nylia, Alphonse, Adianez and Ariel. Nelson also leaves behind two grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews and cousins.
Funeral from the Conley Funeral Home, 138 Belmont Street, BROCKTON, MA. Relatives and friends are invited. Visiting hours are Thursday 5:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Interment will be held at the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Connery Avenue, Bourne, MA Friday at 10:00 A.M.
