Obituary

Meredith---Laurence A. (Bud) Lantz passed away June 27, 2010, in Meredith, NH. He reached his ninetieth year this past February.

His long life began in Melrose, Massachusetts, as the second child to Gladys and Lindsay Lantz. He graced the local ponds with his hockey skills, while playing football at Melrose High and becoming the class Valedictorian in 1938. He went on to graduate from Cornell University then enlisted in the U.S. Navy during WWII. His courage and leadership skills were tested and proven as the leader of an underwater demolition team during several South Pacific island invasions.

Shortly after the war’s end, Bud fell in love with a Melrose girl, Janice Ford. They married and began a life of balance, working together in their cabinet business, Lantz and Tilton, in Burlington, Mass., then building a home on Lake Winnipesaukee, moving to Alton Bay, NH. Bud went on to become a selectman in the town of Alton, and shared his craftsman’s skills as a professor at N.H. Vocational Technical College.

His true legacy, however, will be his selfless support of others. There wasn’t a need too big for Bud’s willingness to help. He will be missed most for this place he carved in so many lives.

A strong family man, his sisters, Pauline Tilton and Elinor Hull, along with nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws, and dear friends, laid him to rest beside his wife at the New Riverside Cemetery in Alton, NH.

Memorial donations can be made to charities of one’s choice.
