Robert L. Littlefield 84, of Dennisport, and a former longtime Franklin resident, died peacefully Sunday July 11, 2010 at the Forge Hill Assisted Living Center in Franklin. He was the husband of Denise B. (Poulin) Littlefield.
Born in Exeter, New Hampshire October 21, 1925 a son of the late Lester R. and Sarah E. (Grant) Littlefield, he was raised in Springvale, Maine. He attended school there, and following his graduation, he attended and graduated from Bryant College in Smithfield, Rhode Island.
Mr. Littlefield was a retired certified accountant. For many years, he owned and operated the H & R Block Tax franchise in downtown Franklin. He later became an auditor for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Department of Environmental Affairs. He retired to Dennisport in 1991 after having lived in Franklin since 1964.
He served in the United States Army during WWII. He attained the rank of Tec/5, and was stationed in central Europe. He was awarded the European African Middle Eastern Theater Campaign Ribbon, the World War II Victory Medal, and the Good Conduct Medal. He was honorably discharged in May 1946.
He loved to travel, was an avid geneologist, and was proud to be a descendant of the Littlefield family which established the first business in Wells, Maine.
Surviving in addition to his wife are 5 sons; Brian Littlefield and his wife Kelly of Barre, VT, Brent Littlefield and his wife Bonnie of Concord, NH, James Mullen and his wife Blanche of Emporia, VA, Bruce Mullen and his wife Eva of Franklin, Brian Mullen of Franklin, 4 daughters; Lisa Vicario of Bellingham, Sharon Simone and her husband Bill of Methuen, Laurie Holmes and her husband Barry of North Grafton, and Kathy Mullen of Boston. A dear cousin, Shirley (Harmon) Pawling of Chazy, NY, 20 grandchildren and 24 great grandchildren.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral Friday July 16th, at 11AM in the Charles F. Oteri & Son Franklin Funeral Home 33 Cottage St. Franklin, www.franklinfuneral.com.
Interment with military honors will follow at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne, at 1:45PM.
