Frederick J. Leathers, 88, passed away at the Lawrence Memorial Hospital in Medford on July 12th, 2010. He was born in Boston on December 26th, 1921. Fred was raised and educated in Somerville. He has been a resident of Medford since 1960 and was also a previous resident of Malden. For over 50 years, he worked in the Maintenance Department at Fenway Park in Boston. He was a handyman who always extended a helping hand to his family, friends and neighbors. Most of all, Fred was a loving husband and father and a doting grandfather. He is survived by his wife; Edna (Driscoll) Leathers of Medford; by his son Frederick Leathers and his wife Patricia of Hingham; by his daughter Kathy Swinerton and her husband Thomas of Methuen; by his granddaughter Kerry Leathers of Hingham; and by his sister Marie Nolan of Somerville. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Fred was predeceased by his parents; Leroy and Mary (Duggan) Leathers; by his brother Roy Leathers; and by his sister Dorothy Leathers. Relatives & friends are invited to attend his funeral from the Breslin Funeral Home, 610 Pleasant St., Malden on Thursday July 15th at 9 AM followed by a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated at St. Clements Church in Medford at 10 AM. Services will conclude with interment in Oak Grove Cemetery in Medford. Visiting hours will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday July 14th from 4-8 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the charity of one’s choice.
