Ranald A. Day, Jr., 71, of Manchester, NH, died Friday July 9, 2010, in the Catholic Medical Center, Manchester. He was born in Waltham, MA on December 27, 1938, son of the late Ranald and Catherine V. (Finnerty) Day. Mr. Day had been a resident of Manchester for the past 14 years, formerly living in Lompoc, CA and Medway and Waltham, MA. He grew up in Waltham and graduated from St. Mary’s High School. Mr. Day then served with the U.S. Army from 1958-1962. Mr. Day was employed by Raytheon in Lexington, MA for many years. He retired in 1994 from the Raytheon plant in Goleta, CA. Mr. Day was a longtime Elks Club member, a member of the Knights of Columbus, the American Legion, the Londonderry Senior Center and the Raytheon Retirees Association. He was also a communicant of St. Jude Parish in Londonderry. Mr. Day enjoyed playing bingo, trips to Las Vegas and Foxwoods, and was an avid fan of all the Boston sports teams. He loved spending time with his family, his dog, Chuck and listening to his favorite music.
He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Marion (Simmons) Day of Manchester, six children, Patrick Day and his wife Clare of N. Attleboro, MA, Gary Day and his wife Katherine of Manchester, NH, Catherine M. Heinrich and her husband Fred of Londonderry, NH, Steven R. Day and his wife Katherine of Swanton, VT, Susan E. Day of Manchester and Cindy Jean Lizotte and her husband Richard of Derry, NH. He is also survived by 10 grandchildren.
Following cremation, a Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at 10:00am Tuesday, July 13, 2010 in St. Jude Parish, 435 Mammoth Rd., Londonderry. Burial with military honors followed in the NH State Veterans Cemetery, 110 Daniel Webster Hwy., Boscawen, NH.
