Mrs. Ruby Lee Maris, 95, of Fitzgerald, Georgia, died Saturday, July 10, 2010 at the Osceola Nursing Home.
Funeral services will be held 4 PM, Tuesday, July 13 at the Paulk Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Keith Goodlett & Rev. B.J. Funk officiating. The family will receive friends from 2 until the funeral hour on Tuesday at the funeral home. Graveside services will be held at 2 PM, Wednesday, July 14 in the Oak Hill Cemetery in Clermont, Florida.
Mrs. Maris was born July 2, 1915 in White Oak, North Carolina to the late Challie Henry and Georgia Johnson Smith. She grew up in Clermont, FL, where she graduated from Clermont High School in 1933. In 1951, she and her family moved to Immokalee, FL where she lived until 2004 when she moved to Fitzgerald. Mrs. Maris was a homemaker and beautician. At the age of 16, she joined the First United Methodist Church in Clermont, FL. Presently she was a member of Central United Methodist Church and was a charter member of First United Methodist Church in Immokalee, FL.
She is survived by son and daughter-in-law: Dr. Wayne S. and Margie Maris of Fitzgerald; two grandsons and their spouses: Joseph Maris and Brandi Painter of Redmond, Washington and Jeffery and Dawn Howell Maris of Littleton, Colorado; three great grandchildren: Robert Maris, Piper Maris and Zoe Maris. Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband: Joe Rial Maris and a brother: Grover A. Smith.
