Obituary

OSTERVILLE, MA___ Angele (Merkyte) Garsys, previously of Worcester, MA., died July 9, 2010 in her daughters home in Osterville. She was born in Dusetos Zarasai in Lithuania, daughter of Jonas Merkys and Anele Blinkaite. She was the beloved wife of the late Vladas Garsys and beloved mother of the late Sarunas "Sharkey" Garsys. She came to the U.S. with her family from Lithuania and lived in Worcester for over sixty years where she was employed by the U.S. Envelope Co., and the Bell Co. Mrs. Garsys belonged to and was the president of the Worcester Chapter of the Lithuanian Women's Alliance; she was also president of the Worcester Chapter of the Sisters of the Immaculate Conception Supporters; a member of the Lithuanian Bendruomine; and a communicant of St. Casimir's Church, Worcester. Her joy in life was her family. She loved spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a great cook, baker and loved gardening and knitting. She will be remembered for her quick smile and helping others.

Her family includes a son, Algis Garsys and his wife Lucia Garsys of Tampa, Fl., and their children Rima Garsys, Gytis Garsys of Tampa; Darius Garsys and his wife Vanessa and their children of Charleston, SC., Linas Garsys of Baltimore, Maryland, and Gintas Garsys and his wife Becca of Minetonka, Minnesota. She leaves a daughter, Jura Drukteinis and her husband Dr. Albert of Bedford, NH., and their children Dr. Dainius Drukteinis and his wife, Dr. Jennifer and family of Brookline, MA., Dr. Saulius Drukteinis and his wife Dr. Lesbia and family of Hamden, CT. She leaves her late son Sarunas' widow, Justine Garsys of Henrietta, NY., and their children Audra Malawsky and her husband Derek of Vancouver, Canada; Laila Garsys of Vancouver, Canada and Aria Goodberlet and her husband, Eric and family of Rush, NY. She leaves six great-grandchildren. She also leaves a sister, Aldona Klimavicius of Worcester; several nieces and nephews in the United States and Lithuania

Calling hours are Sunday, July 11 from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. in DIRSA-MORIN FUNERAL HOME, 298 Grafton Street, Worcester. The funeral will be held on Monday, July 12 with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 A.M. in St. Mary Church of the Visitation, 218 Providence Street, Putnam, Ct. Burial will be in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Putnam. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Sisters of the Immaculate Conception, 600 Liberty Highway, Putnam, Ct., 06260.
