Obituary

Marguerite "Rita" (Dineen) Sheehan, a lifelong resident of Charlestown, died on Tuesday, July 6, 2010 at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston following an extended illness. She was 87 years old.

Rita was born in Boston to the late Jerome and Marguerite (Dowd) Dineen. She grew up in Charlestown where she attended Boston Public Schools and graduated from Charlestown High School in 1940. Rita enlisted into the United States Coast Guard in 1943 and served her country during World War ll. She was honorably discharged in 1945. In 1947, Rita began working for The New England Telephone Company and after 40 years of service in the Bowdoin Square Office she retired in 1987. She was a member of The Telephone Pioneers of America.

Rita is the beloved wife of the late Francis E. Sheehan. She is the devoted sister of the late Mary Fitzgerald, Helen Walles, Jerome T. Dineen and Kathleen Parker. She is also the loving aunt of several nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend Rita's Funeral on Friday, July 9, 2010 at 8 a.m. from The Carr Funeral Home, 220 Bunker Hill St. Charlestown followed by her Funeral Mass in St. Francis De Sales Church, 313 Bunker Hill St. Charlestown at 9 a.m. Entombment will be at Holy Cross Cemetery Mausoleum, Malden. Visiting hours will be on Thursday, July 8, 2010 from 4 to 7 p.m.
