Salem: Charles P. Latulippe, age 99, died Wednesday, July 7, 2010 at the Hunt Nursing and Retirement Home in Danvers following a long illness. He was the devoted husband of the late Thelma C. (Eldridge) Latulippe with whom he had shared 64 years of marriage.
Born and raised in Salem, he was the son of the late Louis and Anysie (Jolin) Latulippe.
As a young man, he began working as a bell hop for the Hawthorne Hotel in 1927 and continued working through 1940. He had been accepted as a call man for the Salem Fire Department in 1933 and joined the department full time in 1940. Mr. Latulippe retired in 1975 with 43 proud years of service as a firefighter for the city.
Mr. Latulippe was a member of Local 172, International Assoc. of Firefighters, the Lafayette Associates, and the Salem Loyal Order of Moose. He was also a long time member of Ste. Anne Parish and the Holy Name Society.
He and his beloved wife Thelma loved to travel and over the years traveled throughout the US, Europe, Canada as well as many cruises to various ports of call.
He is survived by his son Charles P. Latulippe, Jr., retired Lieutenant, Salem Fire Department, and his wife Patricia of Beverly, 3 grandsons, Steven and his wife Carol of Beverly, Mark and his wife Kendra of Salem, Brian and his wife Kristin of Beverly, 5 great-grandchildren, Nadine and Paige Latulippe of Salem, Ronnie, Kristen & Liam Latulippe of Beverly.
He is also survived by several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by 2 brothers, Joseph and George Latulippe, 2 sisters, Blanche Latulippe and Marie Griffin.
Relatives and friends are invited to gather at the Levesque Funeral Home, 163 Lafayette St. [Rt. 114 / 1-A] Salem for visiting hours on Monday, July 12, 2010 from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., to be followed by his funeral mass in Ste. Anne Church, Jefferson Ave., Salem at 11 a.m.
Burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery, Salem.
