LEICESTER: John A. “Jack” Hennessy, Jr., 70 of 30 Pleasant St., died Wednesday, July 7 in Oakwood Rehab & Nursing Center in Webster.
He leaves two sons John A. Hennessy Garrity of Thailand, and Daniel J. Hennessy of Worcester, four daughters Kim DePatie of Las Vegas, NV., Diana Hennessy-Curran and her husband Brian of Sturbridge, Megan Hennessy-Luciw and her husband Michael of Cranford, N.J. and Cara Hennessy of Charlton, four brothers Edward F. Hennessy and his wife Catherine of Oldsmar, Fl., Richard Hennessy and his wife Dawn of New Braintree, Dennis E. Hennessy and his wife LuAnn of Cherry Valley and James M. Hennessy and his wife Lynn of Oakham, a sister Patricia Vanasse of Oakham, 5 grandchildren; Elizabeth, Madison, Kiley, Jenna and M.J. and many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his son Michael P. Hennessy, a brother Donald J. “Mickey” Hennessy and 2 sisters Kathleen A. Soucie and Eileen A. Hennessy.
Jack was a longtime substance abuse counselor and director for 10 years at Channing House in Worcester before retiring in 1990.
He was born in Worcester, the son of John A. and Frances X. (Doran) Hennessy. He graduated from Leicester High School and received a certificate in Substance Abuse Counseling from Quinsigamond Community College. He served his country with the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. He was a member of the Cherry Valley American Legion Post 443, Senior Citizen Club of Leicester and enjoyed playing cards at the Leicester Senior Center. He was an avid hunter.
Jack’s funeral will be held on Monday, July 12 from the MORRISON-MORIN FUNERAL HOME, 1131 Main St., Leicester with a Mass at 10 a.m. in St. Pius X Church, 1153 Main St., Leicester. Burial will follow with Military Honors in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Leicester.
