Vernard "Pooch" Hester, 54, of Lawrence died on Monday July 5, 2010 at Lawrence General Hospital. Mr Hester was born in Thomson, GA and was raised in Lawrence. He has lived in Lawrence all of his life. He was a graduate of Greater Lawrence Regional Technical High School and he worked for 20 years as a laborer for The City of Lawrence and most recently, he worked as a dispatcher for The Lawrence Public Works Department. He was a member of The Rocky Club of Lawrence and was an avid "45's" player. He was an avid sports fan and especially loved watching golf and was a fan of The Georgia Bulldogs. He enjoyed making trips to Georgia.
His family members include his brothers and sisters, James Hester, Jr. and his wife, Mary Hester of Lawrence, Julia Mae Smith of N. Andover, Johnnie-Mae Wilbins of Lawrence, Larry Hester of Lawrence and Lawrence Hester of Lawrence. He leaves many nieces, nephews and cousins and great nieces and great nephews and many close friends. He was pre-deceased by his parents, James Hester, Sr. and Elsie Hester and his brother, Curtis Hester. Calling hours will be on Friday July 9, 2010 from 9 to Noon at The Charles F. Dewhirst Funeral Home, 80 Broadway, Methuen. Funeral services will follow at Noon on Friday at the funeral home.
