BEVERLY: Michael J. Colby, 59, died Tuesday, July 6, 2010 in the Hunt Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Danvers following an extended illness.
Born in Beverly on June 4, 1951, he was the son of the late Herbert A. and Katherine M. (Zarella) Colby. He had resided in Beverly most of his life and was a graduate of Beverly High School class of 1969, where he was a standout pitcher on the baseball team. He was also a graduate of Northeastern University.
Mike was once employed as the finance manager with Sudbay Motors in Gloucester and the former O’Keefe Chevrolet in Ipswich for many years. An avid sports fan, Mike was passionate about golf, fishing and baseball and was once a considered draft pick for the St. Louis Cardinals.
He is survived by his son, Michael J. Colby, Jr. of W. Newbury, three sisters, Marie Colby of Beverly, Suzan Colby and her longtime companion, Mike Gagnon of Lynn and Jennifer and her husband, Mike Gonzales of Beverly, two brothers, Herbert A. III and his wife, Wendy (Boetticher) Colby of Newburyport and Daniel Colby of Beverly and several nieces and nephews. He was also predeceased by a sister, Kathleen Colby.
Visiting hours will be held on Saturday in the Grondin Funeral Home, 376 Cabot Street, Beverly from 12 – 2 p.m. with a memorial service to follow at 2 p.m. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend.
