Donald J. Rutherford, 86, of Methuen, passed away peacefully on July 5, 2010. Donald was born in Lawrence, MA on April 19, 1924, son of Bertha and Norman Rutherford. He was a graduate of Lawrence High School and Franklin Institute. He served in the Army in WWII. Donald was the owner of Hodgson Service Station/ Tower Hill Towing of Lawrence for the past 42 years. He enjoyed his family, working at his garage and trips to Canada to visit relatives.
Donald is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Hazel (Powell) of Methuen, and his children, Donald A. and his wife Karen (Buckley) of Methuen, Sandra J. Patti and her husband James of Salem, NH and Steven M. and his wife Tammi (Stanwood) of Derry, NH, six grandchildren, James Patti, Jennifer Patti, Stacy Rutherford, Gregory Rutherford, Brittani Rutherford and Cody Rutherford. He also leaves several brothers and sisters in law, nieces and nephews and relatives from Harvey Station, NB, Canada. He was predeceased by his brother William Rutherford.
A memorial service will be held in his memory on Sunday, July 11th at 1:30 p.m. at United Riverside Congregational Church, 290 Water Street, Lawrence, MA. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to United Riverside Congregational Church, c/o 317 So. Broadway, Suite 109, Lawrence, MA 01843.
