Bernard Neil Bondy, 81, U.S. Navy Veteran of Mystic, died Sunday, July 4, 2010, at Lawrence & Memorial Hospital after a brief illness.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Donna; his five children, Suzanne Bondy and Scott Bondy both of Mystic, Denise Bondy of Las Vegas, Nev., Stephan Bondy of Kady, Tex. and Leslie Bondy of Schenectady, N.Y.; his nine grandchildren; one sister and two brothers.
He was born one of six children in Detroit, Mich., on June 21, 1929. He enlisted in the Navy in 1952, and was stationed in Japan, Florida and Maryland before being transferred to Groton in 1960, where he retired in 1972. He was a life member and Past Commander of the VFW Post 3263 in Mystic.
The family will greet relatives and friends from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Dinoto Funeral Home, 17 Pearl Street, Historic downtown Mystic. A Funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday at St. Mary Mother of the Redeemer Church, 69 Groton Long Point Road, Groton.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Catholic Charities, Diocese of Norwich, Inc., 331 Main Street, Norwich, CT 06360.
