Obituary

Daniel P. DeRose, Sr., 63, of Whitman died July 3rd surrounded by his family in the South Shore Hospital, after a losing battle to cancer. He was the beloved husband of Jacquelyn “Jackie” Alger-DeRose.

Family, friends and co-workers mourn the lost of Daniel, co-owner of The Clog Shoppe in Columbian Square, South Weymouth. His wife Jackie will continue to run the business.

For many years this couple has waged their own private war on finding a cure for cancer. Dan’s devotion to the cause inspired him to offer discounts to the medical community as a way of saying thank you for the care many of his loved ones have received. His “Clogs For The Cure” tee shirts inspired by his wife’s illness, have been seen coast to coast! No benefit for cancer was too small and no Clog Shoppe donation to many.

Mr. DeRose was proudest of the work he had done with The Friends of Mel’s Foundation. Through his sale of Mel’s Bracelets, hundreds of thousands of dollars have been raised by his store to support research and benefit people suffering from cancer.

In addition to his wife Jackie, he is survived by a son, Daniel P. DeRose, Jr. his grandson Jeremy DeRose; also his brother Ed DeRose and his sister Susan Weeks, their spouses, nieces and nephews.

Family and friends are invited to attend a celebration of Dan’s life, on Wednesday July 7th at 7:00PM in the Blanchard Funeral Chapel Plymouth Street (Rt. 58 at the rotary) Whitman. Burial will be at a later date. Visiting hours will be held prior to his service from 4:00-7:00PM.In lieu of flowers donations may be made in his name to the Friends of Mel’s Foundation, 20 Pond Park Rd., Hingham, MA 02043
