Obituary

Mrs. Irene M. (DeChamplain) Boutin, of Taunton, died Thursday, July 1 at the home of her daughter, following a brief illness. She was the wife of the late Paul A. Boutin. She was born 83 years ago in Taunton, the daughter of the late Arthur and Albertine (Beaulieu) DeChamplain. A lifelong city resident, she was a graduate of the former St. Mary’s High School, and had attended the New England Conservatory in Boston. Prior to her retirement, she had been employed by R.E. Smith Company in Fall River for several years. She had previously been employed by Rand McNally in Taunton for many years. In her younger years, Irene worked at the former Boutin Studios in Taunton, where she met her future husband, Paul. Mrs. Boutin was instrumental in the formation of the Holy Rosary Fraternity of the Third Order of Secular Franciscans in Taunton, and was a professed member of the New Bedford Fraternity for many years. An amateur artist, she was a member of the Taunton Art Association. An accomplished soprano, Irene performed with several local church choirs and civic choruses in the area and was a guest soloist at various concerts locally and in New York. Mrs. Boutin also sang in the St. Mary’s Church Choir in Taunton, under the direction of Brian Cote. She was a communicant of St. Mary’s Church.

She leaves: 1 son: Leonard Boutin of E. Falmouth; 2 daughters: Paulette Hurley and her husband, William of Raynham, Paula Correira and her husband Stephen of Taunton; 3 sisters: Sr. Adrienne DeChamplain, S.U.S.C. of Fall River, Theresa Leonard of Taunton, Pauline Hall of Merrimac, N.H.; 5 grandchildren: Andrea Levesque, Lisa Doman, Talia Yourell, Annelise Hurley and Christian Hurley; 5 great grandchildren: Jocelyn and Aaron Levesque, Paige and Sophie Doman and Mckenna Yourell; and many nieces and nephews. Mrs. Boutin was also the sister of the late Albea Milot and Bernadette Hamlin.

Funeral services will be held from The Riendeau-Mulvey Funeral Home, 467 Bay Street on Wednesday, July 7 at 11:00 A.M. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Church at 12:00 Noon. Interment will be in St. Joseph Cemetery. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Visiting Hours will be held on Tuesday, from 4:00 to 8:00 P.M.
