HOLDEN-Edith M. (Burbank) Rice, 93 formerly of Worcester died Thursday January 24th in Holden Nursing Home after an illness. Her husband of 39 years Albert F. Rice died in 1977. She leaves her son James F. Rice of Worcester, 2 daughters Kathleen M. Hidenfelter Ecker of Holden, and Marjorie A. Falcone of Paxton, 11 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren, nephews and nieces. 3 brothers George, Harold and Joseph Burbank and 2 sisters Ethel Flanagan and Gertrude Benoit predeceased her.
She was born in Clinton the daughter of Clarence and Mary (Grady) Burbank and had been a Worcester resident for 75 years. She was a graduate of Worcester Vocational High School. Mrs. Rice had been a long time self-employed childcare provider. She was a member of Christ the King Parish and had been a CCD instructor there and at St. Charles Borromeo Church. Mrs. Rice along with her husband were founding members of St. Andrew the Apostle Church. She was active with both the Girls Scouts and Boy Scouts organizations.
The funeral will be Monday January 28th from O’Connor Brothers Funeral Home, 592 Park Avenue, with a Mass at 10:00 AM in St. Andrew the Apostle Church, 5 Spaulding Street. Burial will be in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton. Calling hours will be held from 8:00 until 9:30 AM in the funeral home the day of the funeral.
