EAST BEND

James William Dinkins, 48, of East Bend, passed away Tuesday, June 29, 2010. He was born in Yadkin County on January 11, 1962 to Athalee and the late Nell Gray Wilhelm Dinkins. James was the first person in the United States to be treated at Duke Medical Center and Cancer Treatment Centers of America in Philadelphia to be offered the treatment he received. Through him, others will live a more fulfilling life. James was an outstanding father and was good to everyone he knew and met. He was saved and he loved the Lord. James was preceded in death by his mother, Nell Gray Wilhelm Dinkins.
Surviving are his wife, Scarlet Hicks Dinkins of the home; his son, Jordan Blake Dinkins of the home; his father, Athalee Dinkins of East Bend; Brothers, Joe (Candace) Dinkins and Von Dinkins both of East Bend; his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Wayne and Donna Hicks of Boonville; two nieces, Hannah Dinkins and Callie Dinkins both of East Bend; and special friends, Patricia (Odell) Hutchens and Tina Long both of East Bend.
Funeral services will be conducted Friday, July 2, 2010 at 2:00 PM at the Union Grove Baptist Church witht he Rev. Kenny Gooden officiating. The body will be placed in the church at 1:30 to lie instate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday, July 1, 2010 from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at Huff Funeral Home in East Bend.
