Obituary

Robert Cournoyer, 83, of John McLaughlin Way, Cumberland, formerly of Carrington Ave., Woonsocket, died Tuesday evening at home surrounded by his family. He was the husband of the late Florence (Curtis) Cournoyer.
Born in St. Jude, P.Q. Canada, he was a son of the late Hormidas and Anna (Vincent) Cournoyer. He was raised in Canada and came to the United Sates in 1951. He resided in Woonsocket for many years before moving to Cumberland.
Mr. Cournoyer worked for Bonin Spinning, as well as several other mills, and retired from Star Carbonizing. He also delivered the Woonsocket Call in Cumberland for many years. He was a parishioner of St. Joan of Arc Church.
Robert’s passion in life was farming and gardening. His love of the land was instilled in him during his youth in Quebec. It remained with him throughout the course of his life, from working at his brother’s farm in Bellingham through maintaining a garden well into his retirement years.
He is survived by a son, Scott R. Cournoyer, and his wife Jessica, of Cumberland, two step-sons Gary Cotnoir, and is wife Debra, of Scituate, and Denis Cotnoir, and his wife Sandra, of Blackstone, a step- daughter, Gail A. Costello, and her husband Frank, of Liverpool, NY, and grandchildren, Annabella and Robert Cournoyer, Francis, Kevin, James, and Brad Costello, Kelly Wetmore, Denis, Kenneth, Jeffrey, Gary, and Christopher Cotnoir and Kimberly Riordan. He was predeceased by all of his siblings. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews and their families.
His funeral will be Saturday at 8:45 am from the Menard Funeral Home, 127 Carrington Ave., Woonsocket, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am in St. Joan of Arc Church, Mendon Rd., Cumberland. Burial will follow in St. Jean Baptiste Cemetery, Bellingham. Visiting hours are Friday from 5-8 pm.
