QUINEBAUG, CT – Dorothy F. (Hawthorne) Mack, 81, of Quinebaug, died Tuesday, June 29, 2010 in Westview Rehab & Convalescent Center, Dayville.
She leaves her husband of 20 years, James Carroll Mack; 2 sons, Donald A. Hathaway of Sturbridge, MA and Jay P. Hathaway of Wales, MA; a daughter, Sharon J. McCallum of Leicester, MA; 3 grandchildren, Todd, Brandon and Mikayla Hathaway; a great granddaughter, Peyton Hathaway; a brother, Albert Hawthorne of Sunnyvale, CA; a sister, Patricia Germain of Worcester, MA; nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by 2 brothers, Russell Dufresne and Frederick Hawthorne and a sister, Ann.
She was born in Worcester and raised in Spencer, a daughter of Frank P. and Laura E. (Dufresne) Hawthorne. She moved to Quinebaug in 1990. She graduated from David Prouty High School in Spencer in 1946.
Mrs. Mack was a bookkeeper at Gendreau’s Chevrolet in Spencer for 10 years. She later worked as a waitress and then hostess at the former Howard Johnson Restaurant on the Mass. Turnpike in Charlton. She retired in 1993.
She was a member of Saint Stephen’s Church and volunteered for church projects. She enjoyed cooking.
A memorial Mass will be held Wednesday, July 7, at 10:30 AM in St. Stephen’s Church, corner of Routes 131 & 197, Quinebaug. There are no calling hours. Donations in her name may be made either to the Alzheimer’s Association, Mass. Chapter, 311 Arsenal St., Watertown, MA 02472 or to Saint Stephen’s Church, PO Box 222, Quinebaug, CT 06262. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Scanlon Funeral Service, 38 East Main St., Webster, MA.
