Kathryn R. (Chaput) Sweeney, 88, of New Bedford died Friday June 25, 2010 at Royal Taber Street Nursing Home. She was the wife of the late John J. Sweeney.
Born in New Bedford, the daughter of the late Elrick M. and Ethel (Rogers) Chaput, she lived in New Bedford for all of her life.
She was a communicant of Holy Name of the Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish.
Mrs. Sweeney was formerly employed as a bookkeeper for Kay Jewelers.
Survivors include three children, John J. Sweeney, Jr. and his wife Susan of Tiverton, RI, Michael Sweeney of Dartmouth, and Patricia Young and her husband Kenneth of Punta Gorda, FL; a brother, Donald Chaput of New Bedford; five grandchildren, Ryan Young and his wife June, Meaghan Beasley and her husband Jason, Michael Sweeney, Patrick Sweeney, and Shawn Sweeney and his wife Cathryn; and a great-grandson, Grayson Beasley.
She was the mother-in-law of the late Linda Sweeney and sister of the late William Chaput.
Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday at 9AM at Holy Name of the Sacred Heart of Jesus Church. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery.
