Gladys F. Callahan, a life-long resident of Woburn passed away peacefully, June 28th in her home following a short illness. She was 90 years of age. She was the beloved wife of the late John T. Callahan. Born in Woburn she was the daughter of the late Martin and Julia Flaherty.
Mrs. Callahan was a retired Administrative Supervisor and worked for forty years at the Veterans Administration Office in Boston. She was a United States Army Veteran of WWII, honorably serving in the Women’s Army Corp from 1943 to 1946. Mrs. Callahan was very proud of her service to her country and the many years she worked for the Veterans Administration. She was a member of the WAC Veteran Assoc. Bay State Chapter 14. She was also an active parishioner of St. Barbara Church where she was a member of the Young at Heart Club. Throughout her life, Mrs. Callahan enjoyed staying active. She loved traveling to different destinations all over the world and one of her greatest joys was a dish of chocolate ice cream and a good cup of coffee.
In addition to her late husband and parents, Gladys is predeceased by her sisters Mary Maguire, Elizabeth Flaherty and Julia Mantere. She is survived by her sisters, Doris Matta of Medford, Theresa Gately of Woburn, and brothers, Albert Flaherty of Burlington and Leo Flaherty of Everett. She is further survived by several loving nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
Funeral services will be held from the McLaughlin - Dello Russo Funeral Home, 60 Pleasant St., Woburn, Thursday, July 1st, at 9 a.m. followed by a funeral mass celebrated in St. Barbara Church, 138 Cambridge Rd., Woburn, at 10 a.m. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours Wednesday from 4 thru 8. Services will conclude with burial at Calvary Cemetery, Woburn.
