John H. Maillet, 86

Worcester: John H. Maillet, 86, passed away on Thursday, June 24, 2010. His wife of 60 years, Phyllis J. (Carlow) Maillet passed away in 2007. He leaves a daughter, Maureen H. and her husband Rick West of Limerick, Maine; 4 grandchildren, Matthew Carey, Kathleen Hucknall, Kurt West, and Jean McCarthy; 4 great-grandchildren, Samuel Hucknall, Taylor Weist, Ryan McCarthy, and Madison West; and many nieces and nephews. A daughter, J. Wendy Maillet, predeceased him in March of this year. He is also predeceased by one brother, Wilfred Maillet Jr. and two sisters Marion Maillet and Irene Sullivan.

John was born in Worcester, son of Wilfred and Helen (Finnegan) Maillet. He attended St. John's Elementary School and graduated from Commerce High School. Following graduation, John proudly served his country in the U.S. Army in the South Pacific during WWII, participating in the liberation of the Phillipines. John was a member of the Vernon Hill Legion Post. He was a firefighter for many years for the Worcester Fire Department, working at various fire stations throughout the city. He retired as a Lieutenant working as a Fire Inspector at the Grove Street Fire Station. John loved spending his summers in Green Harbor, MA, enjoyed spending time in Limerick, ME, and he loved to sing. His family meant everything to him, and he was affectionately called "Grampy" by all who knew him.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, June 30, 2010, with a Mass at 11:00 a.m. in St. John's Church,40 Temple St. Worcester. Burial will follow in St. John's Cemetery. Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, June 29, 2010 from 5-8 p.m. in Nordgren Memorial Chapel 300 Lincoln St. Worcester. Flowers may be sent.
